Our Story

How It All Began

Before their paths crossed, both Cherica and Abayomi were in a season of rebuilding.
They were grounding themselves, healing from what life had stretched in them, and
searching, even though neither of them knew exactly what they were searching for.
They only knew that something in their spirit was preparing them for more.
For Cherica, that quiet knowing was clear. When the right man appeared, he would
stand apart. And when Abayomi reached out, she did not expect anything significant.
Their first date revealed everything their early conversations could not. They talked for
hours, moved through the evening like two people who had known each other far longer
than a day, and shared a rare, familiar warmth.

A Love That Chose Itself

As their bond grew, the truth of who they were unfolded beautifully. Cherica recognized
Abayomi’s quiet steadiness, the warmth he carried, and the intentional way he pursued
her. She saw that he knew what he wanted, and he showed it with consistency and
care. Abayomi, in turn, saw in Cherica a woman whose smile held sincerity, whose
intentionality guided their journey, whose patience softened their days, and whose
clarity about what she wanted anchored their future.

Their story was not without adversity. Timing was not always perfect, and life did not
always make the path smooth. There were moments when it seemed like the pieces
might not fit. But every time something tried to pull them apart, something stronger
brought them back together. Their story kept choosing itself, even when it did not look
like it would. The pieces always found their way into place.

The Surprise That Changed Everything

Abayomi planned a proposal that reflected her heart, not his comfort zone. Knowing
how much she loved the water, he arranged a private gondola ride in Dallas, Texas. A
message in a bottle, a calming musician, the quiet water, the intentionality behind every
detail, it was a moment that revealed the depth of his love. When she read his words
and looked up to see him asking her to marry him, the answer came with certainty.

A Purposeful Love

What began as a simple message became a love shaped by grace, resilience, and
divine timing. And on June 27, 2026, Cherica and Abayomi will celebrate a story that
was not perfect, but was always purposeful. In this story, every piece, even the difficult
ones, came together exactly as it was meant to.

Guests are welcome to wear formal or semiformal attire. Soft, romantic tones such as sage, blush, peach, cocoa brown, or tan pair beautifully with the setting.

Children

This will be an adults-only celebration due to the intimate nature of the day. We kindly ask that guests make arrangements for little ones so everyone can relax and enjoy the evening with us.

Parking

On-site parking is available at the Plano Nature and Retreat Center. Rideshare is also encouraged for convenience.

Weather

Portions of the celebration may take place outdoors. Guests may want to plan for warm weather and comfortable footwear.

Cultural Elements

Our wedding is a celebration of two lives, two families, and two cultures coming together with intention. It is important to us that our day reflects the love, heritage, and values that shaped who we are. Blending American and Yoruba influences allows us to honor our families, embrace our roots, and create a celebration that feels true to both of us. Sharing this part of our story with the people we love makes the day even more meaningful.

Photography & Social Media

We will be having an unplugged ceremony. We kindly ask guests to put phones and cameras away during this part of the day so everyone can be fully present with us. Photos and videos are welcome during the reception.
